Now India has got its first-ever handcrafted high quality khadi fabric footwear which is designed by Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC). It was launched by Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister for Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) on 21st October 2020. The footwear was launched via video-conferencing.

Currently, there are 15 designs in the female category and 10 designs in the male category. The footwear will be having the Madhubani art, thus it will also be promoting indigenous Indian art.
Khadi aims to capture market worth of around Rs. 5,000 crore.

Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC)
- KVIC is a statutory body established by an act of Parliament.
- It took over the work of former all India Khadi and Village Industries Board.
- Indian national freedom and the father of the nation – Mahatma Gandhi, gave Khadi as a sustainable and inclusive vehicle for growth and development. KVIC creates employment at grass root village level, even with a very low per capita investment. Needs of the rural sector in terms of processed goods are met to a great extent by KVIC. The sustainable income for artisans and craftsmen are created by this platform. It glorifies the work done by hand and also conserves the culture of hardwork and individual commercial initiatives which are inclusive and developmental in nature. Khadi products are accepted by a very wide class of people from middle to the highest level.

Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME)
Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (Government of India) deals with the formation of laws, rules, regulations, circulars etc. pertaining MSMEs in India. It also makes plans, policies and schemes to assist MSMEs in their growth, Earlier there were two ministries names, Ministry of Small Scale Industries and Ministries of Agro and Rural Industries. These two ministries were merged on 9th May 2007 under Government of India (Allocation of Business) Rules, 1961 and Ministry of MSME was formed.
Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises has two divisions:
Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) Division
- This division is tasked with the administration, vigilance and administrative supervision of the National Small Industries Corporation (NSIC) Ltd., and the three autonomous national level entrepreneurship development/training originations.
- It is also responsible for implementation of the schemes relating to Performance and Credit Rating and Assistance to Training Institution, among others.
- Preparation and monitoring of Results- Framework Document (RFD) under Performance Monitoring and Evaluation System (PMES).
Agro and Rural Industry (ARI) Division
- It looks after the administration of two statutory bodies viz. the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC), Coir Board and Mahatma Gandhi Institute for Rural Industrialization (MGIRI).
- It also supervises the implementation of the Prime Minister's Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP).
